What is nutrition
Today we will try to know what is nutrition and why nutrition is important. At the most basic level, nutrition is the regular, balanced diet we all know. Good nutrition helps fuel your body. The food you eat provides the nutrients your body needs to maintain your brain, muscles, bones, nerves, skin, circulation, and immune system. Today we will know what foods provide good nutrition. Names of some nutrients are mentioned:
- Carbohydrates.
- Proteins.
- Fats.
- Vitamins.
- Minerals.
- Dietary fiber.
- Water.
Carbohydrates
Explain with examples what are carbohydrates.
Define carbohydrates with examples
Carbohydrates are one of the three micronutrients through which the human body obtains energy. It is chemically composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms. Examples of carbohydrates are glucose, starch, lactose, etc.
Proteins
Proteins are large, complex molecules that play many important roles in the body. They do most of the work in cells and are essential for the structure, function, and regulation of body tissues and organs. Any protein in the human body can be made from permutations of only 20 amino acids. There are seven types of proteins: antibodies, contractile proteins, enzymes, hormonal proteins, structural proteins, storage proteins, and transport proteins.
Fats
Fats are also called ‘fatty acids’ or ‘lipids’. Fat is made up of three molecules in our body. I will know the names of some fatty foods.
- monounsaturated fats.
- polyunsaturated fats.
- saturated fats.
- trans fats
Vitamins
Vitamins or dietary supplements are organic food ingredients that are usually found in very small amounts in the diet to aid in the normal nutrition and growth of the body and boost immunity. Lack of vitamins or nutrients in the body causes various diseases or problems. One of the components of many vitamins is a lack of vitamin A, which impairs eyesight.
Minerals
Minerals are elements that are found in the earth and in foods that our bodies need to develop and function normally. Calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium, iron, zinc, iodine, chromium, copper, fluoride, molybdenum, manganese, and selenium are essential for health. So it works a lot.
Dietary Fiber
We know that dietary fiber is found in whole grains and fruits and vegetables. Fiber is made up of the indigestible parts or compounds of plants, which we know pass through our stomach and intestines relatively unchanged. Fiber is mainly a carbohydrate found. Fiber plays a major role in keeping the digestive system healthy.
Water
Water is a substance composed of the chemical elements hydrogen and oxygen and exists in gaseous, liquid, and solid states. It is the most abundant and essential of compounds. A tasteless and odorless liquid at room temperature, it has important ability to dissolve many other substances. So we cannot survive without it.
